heya everyone!
as u might have heard, or not, i went for my SPCA volunteer orientation yesterday and i have to say. it was pretty awesome!(: all the stoopid rumours about the SPCA staff being being rude and arrogant are just bullshit! they were so warm and friendly and u can tell that they genuinely care for the animals there. and guess what! everyone, except the executive officer and the volunteer coordinator, in the office were indians! haha they were so sweet. i was the only
indian singaporean indian and the only indian girl there and they kept smiling at me lol. and i was like smile smile! haha.
then we had a briefing. they taught us how to man the SPCA stalls and how to sign up for our duties. we were also told about some statistics and some stories of the pets from there.
after that we were taken to meet the animals themselves. there were 2 siberian huskies. one was so gorgeous! i was just staring at it lol. there was also a labrador-husky cross breed. it was very pretty also! it was pure white, with bi coloured eyes. really pretty.
there was this HUGE german shepard that was abandoned there by it's previous owner because, and i quote, there was "no maid to help." wtf. YOU frigging bought the dog for YOURSELF. not ur maid! it was so sad cuz he was so big and the kennel was relatively small for him. and he looked very sad as well. some ppl just never cease to amaze me. oh that's not the only case. the moment i set foot into SPCA (sry for the rewind) a family had come to abandon their dog also. FOR THE SAME BLOODY REASON. wth is wrong with u ppl! would u abandon ur baby if u had no maid to help u take care of it.
sry for the rant. moving on. i saw another dog being abandoned when i was visiting the dogs. it was a huge and beautiful alaskan husky. and it's legs were shaking. and i mean, literally shaking. it was so sad to watch. i dunno if it's unwell or just plain scared. a fellow volunteer told me that it was due to fear. sighs.
and i think the saddest part of my whole trip was the golden retriever there. it is 2.5 years old and relatively big for it's age. his name is Mambo. he looked really sad. he just turned away after sniffing my hand from the outside. i went in to play with him for a while and he got so happy. start smiling, wagging his tail and stuff. and as i was leaving he stopped smiling and his tail drooped. and he kept poking its head out as i was closing the door. but he didn make any real effort of wanting to get out of the cage. after that i let him sniff me again from the outside and he turned away. made me wanna cry. sighs.
another thing is that if any dog walks by outside, the dogs in the kennels start barking and become hysterical. one of the older (but younger) volunteer told me that it's because they're jealous that the other dog can walk about and they cant. and i have to say, their hearing skills are awesome! haha. anw i was playing with a cross breed named Ida, when they started getting hysterical. and i went "Ida, shhh!" and she listened!! so cute. all the other dogs were still barking and she calmed down! haha. :P well. basically, that covers my visit there.
OH but another thing! my dad said that we can adopt a small dog!! whee~ my bro and i were so excited! my sis wasn of course lol. she has a thing for living and walking things that are not human. she was so resentful of my hamsters at first! anw that's all for now. be good ppl!(:
